DO I NEED A DENTAL CROWN?

A MORE BEAUTIFUL, FUNCTIONAL SMILE WITH DENTAL CROWNS

Also known as “caps”, dental crowns are commonly made up of strong, tooth-colored porcelain or composite resin material to restore or replace a problematic tooth for a stronger, healthier and more natural looking smile. They are often recommended to patients for the following reasons:

  • Restore a weakened, broken or damaged tooth
  • Correct the shape of a misshapen or chipped tooth
  • Restore a smile after tooth decay, teeth staining or discoloration
  • Secure a dental bridge in place or complete a dental implant
  • Often used after root canal therapy if a dental filling is insufficient

When you come in to see your local dentist in Centennial, we’ll carefully assess your dental needs before recommending any treatment. Should a dental crown be right for you, we will partner with you to design its optimal shape, shade and size to best blend in with your natural teeth for a beautiful cosmetic appearance.

YOUR APPOINTMENT

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH DENTAL CROWNS

Dental crowns typically take about two appointments to complete. In the first visit to the dentist, your mouth is carefully examined and then prepared for a crown with use of a local anesthetic. While you are comfortable and pain-free, a very thin layer of enamel is carefully removed from the tooth to make room for the new dental crown. An impression is made of the teeth and is used to create the new crown, which can be polished and adjusted before final placement into the mouth. In some cases a temporary crown may be recommended to be worn while the new crown is made.

DENTAL BRIDGES

HAVE YOU HEARD OF A DENTAL BRIDGE FOR YOUR SMILE?

Dental bridges “bridge” the gap where one or more teeth are missing by connecting natural looking replacement teeth (known as pontics or dental crowns) by way of crowns that attach to neighboring teeth. Also known as a partial denture, dental bridges are commonly used to replace one or more missing teeth. Give us a call to find out more about how a dental bridge or implant may be right for you!
